Mission
Statement
The
South Portland Recycling Committee consists of volunteer S.P.
residents who have come together to increase recycling within
our community.
Objectives
1.
Continuously increase curbside recycling rates in South Portland.
Performance-to-date
-
6% Rate at beginning of program (2001)
-
21% (latest data as of 2003)
2.
Keep trash pickup as an included “no additional charge”
service to South Portland residents through cost benefits
resulting from curbside recycling efforts.
3.
Make recycling easier.
Implementation Strategy
-
EDUCATE by providing and maintaining
accurate, up-to-date information about recycling (what
can and cannot be recycled, where to take non-curbside
items, etc).
-
PROMOTE and encourage recycling within
our community (community events, Rock.E. Recycle, sponsorships)
and recruit other residents to get involved (committee
member, event volunteers).
-
MEASURE results and trends within the
community and solicit suggestions for improvement (surveys).
-
SIMPLIFY the process for residents by identifying
and implementing ways to make it easier for everyone to
recycle.
